When God chisels the dead weight out of our lives, it can be quite painful. In this remastered video skit below, Tommy and Eddie give a very creative look at a typical believer having to go through the process of discipline.
There were two horses in a field. From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse, but the difference was quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of the older horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen to not have him put down and has made a good home for him. If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. The sound is coming from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell.
It lets the blind horse know where the other horse is so he can follow. The horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse. The blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray. When the horse with the bell returns to the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back to make sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.
Like the owner of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse helping others to find their way. Good friends are like that. You may not always see them, but you know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I will listen for yours!
Get To Know God
To know God is to trust in Him! In order to begin to understand God, we need to first learn more about Him through the reading of the bible and prayer. In Hebrews 5:14 it states that we need to develop our knowledge of God by practice or by study.
But, as you read the bible, you will find in many passages of scripture, that we are to fear God. It doesn’t mean we should be afraid and cower down and hide from His wrath because we are sinners. But, to fear God means to view God in Awe of all of His creation and have admiration and be overwhelmed with His goodness and greatness.
One of the many reasons Christ came to earth was to help teach us, that God is a very loving and patient God. He is our friend walking by our side every day of our life and He would not turn His back on us. However, because he gave us free will, God gives us the choice to turn our back on him. And some of us do without any real understanding.
Even though we may sin and some intentionally sin; we are all completely non-deserving of God’s grace, (and he has a right to punish us for our many transgressions) but, He still wants to forgive us and heal us no matter what. He pursues us and loves us more than we love ourselves. Think about that for a minute. As much of a sinner each of us is and no matter what we do, God still loves us and wants only the best for us, no matter what! All we have to do is believe and trust in Him!
A poll was taken recently throughout the country and it was found that only 23% of Americans asked, felt that God was a loving, friendly and healing God. All the rest felt that God was an angry individual who was judgmental and distant from all of us and that He really does not care about our journey in this life. I would not want to believe in such a God myself. However, please know that this is so far the truth!
Remember, what we believe holds power over us—our minds and our bodies. Satan, the “Father Of All Lies” will use our own ignorance and the incorrect ideas and belief’s we have created by ourselves, against us; especially since they are false statements against God. Satan wants us to look at God as someone who truly does not care about us. Satan wants us to feel alone and helpless in this world.
What does this mean, if we continue to believe in Satan’s lies? It means a life filled with emptiness and distance from any belief at all. You then feel that there is no way that you could trust such a God. You come to the false and final conclusion that only you can trust and believe in yourself, thus be the only one to protect yourself. Or as we all know this statement to be known as; “Survival Of The Fittest.”
When we decide that we have only ourselves to guide our daily steps, we are plagued with stress, worry, confusion, poor health and emptiness. We begin to believe our way is the only way for our survival. And believe me, Satan is right there, making sure that we continue to believe in the man made false self-pride and arrogance.
So then, let’s ask some personal and serious questions. Ask yourself and let’s be very honest, “do you really believe in God?” “And if you do, what type of God do you believe in?”(If you don’t believe in God, what has made you not believe?) Regardless whether you believe or not, ask one final question of yourself, “what brought you to the current belief system you have?” Take a moment and really let yourself have the time to respond.
If you really know God, you will be filled with His love. You will not fear or doubt Him. For God will provide for you and will guide you on the best journey of your life. God promises each of us the abundant life. (John 10:10) For He is truly considered to be your Brother, Father, Savior and Best Friend! For God is your life!
And let’s also be honest for a minute, unfortunately, due to the sin in our lives and the heavy burden of sin that this world groans with; many of us from time to time will face some unpleasant issues along our journey. In most cases, Satan is testing our faith and the personal relationship we have with God.
Satan will put questions in your mind like: “if God loves you so much and was a real friend looking out for you, why would He allow you to suffer?" "Where is He now when you need Him the most?" Well, your immediate response should be that God is right by your side. Remember, you are God’s property, not Satan’s. God is not distant and in many cases I do believe He sheds tears for our unhappiness and pain.
God just asks us to —call upon his name for assistance when we are heavy laden. Give all of our fears, concerns and worry over to Him! Let God lead our current journey out of the bondage of sin and emptiness, so he call fill us with his love and make us whole again. He will quench our thirst and fill the dark emptiness inside our souls, with the light of his grace, love and mercy.
I do not feel that God purposely brings illness, complications and catastrophes in our lives. Our sin and the sin of the world does just fine thanks to Satan. But, if you really take a moment and look back to any of the difficult times in your life, you will see that God took our brokenness from us and created great blessings to assist our needs, and provided some extra blessings we didn’t even know we needed at that time, as well. So God is the best friend we could ever have. He does not only care about our lives on this earth, but for our souls for all eternity. What friend would ever treat you like this? Why would you ever need anything more?
So to really know God is to trust in him! Let’s get to know God then, let’s get reacquainted with Him. Let God come into your life, to guide you and to deliver the promise of a better life on this planet and to continue to walk with you throughout eternity with Him.
But let’s remember this, the relationship is between you and God. No one has a right to tell you how you should believe, pray or worship him. And also remember, in this personal relationship with God, we need to be doing more than good deeds and spending our days with religious rituals. These activities, though noble, will not bring you closer to God, nor get you closer to heaven.
What matters is the true one-on-one personal relationship with God, and your sincere trust to totally turn your life over to Him, being reborn in his word and saying: "please God—take full control of my life; because if you leave the control over to me, I will only fall deeper into the pit of darkness."
Get to know God. Trust in God, walk in His word and love. Don’t be a "luke warm" Christian that does just enough to get by. Change your life for the better and believe in God. Do it now….do it today before it’s too late!!
